"The Law Offices of Christopher Peil have served me and SoLaTiDo Inc. very well for over four years and six successful patents. Not only am I impressed with their knowledge and professionalism, but I’m particularly taken by Chris Peil’s ability to communicate directly with the Patent Office’s examiners, to find out the details of any objections and find a way forward to issuance of a patent.”

“I endorse this lawyer. Chris brings some well-developed soft skills to the table that enhance his ability to work effectively with clients. Because he values the client’s time, he listens very actively, asking lots of questions and making sure that he understands perfectly what the client is describing. Because of this, he conducts interviews very efficiently and needs little face time with the client after an initial disclosure interview. He also takes time to explain things very carefully without a lot of attorney jargon, acronyms, and such. He also works hard to create a balanced picture of what to expect during a patent prosecution – how long, obstacles that could come up, and budgeting, to name a few. Because he works hard to eliminate surprises, the client is generally more comfortable with the whole process.”

“I endorse Chris Piel. When it comes to patent law, clients and attorneys like myself find the whole process to be confusing; we are dealing with the unknown. Patent law has its own terminology and can seem arcane even for those who are familiar with “legal jargon.” Chris has the unique ability to communicate and explain the patent process in everyday language. This is one of the reasons why Chris picks up cases that are referred to him from many lawyers who are confident in his expertise and his ability to provide quality representation. Another important factor for clients, besides the patent process, is the cost to obtain the issued patent. This can be very difficult to predict. Chris does what he can to minimize uncertainty by providing a blended billing structure, involving fixed fees, caps, and hourly billing. He is very conscientious about making sure that his clients are informed about all aspects of their case.”

What Makes Attorney Christopher Peil Uniquely Qualified To Represent You?

I have spent most of my career in the San Francisco Bay area and have served Silicon Valley as a patent practitioner for 20 years, representing all types of clients, from individual inventors and startups to major universities and Fortune 500 companies. It’s no accident that I became a patent attorney. I have a passion for helping people realize their business goals and their dreams and I am fascinated by unusual technological niches. During my time as a corporate librarian in the biotech world, I got the opportunity to explore patenting and patent law and was attracted to the intellectual challenge it offered. I was instrumental in securing a number of the assets, notably cookie technology, in the AOL patent portfolio, recently sold to Microsoft Corporation for more than one billion dollars.

In my personal life, I’m a gym rat who thrives on healthy eating, physical fitness and exercise. I also enjoy scouting out new stairways in San Francisco – my favorites might be the Vulcan and the Saturn stairways above the Castro neighborhood. I enjoy helping to beautify the City and improve the environment by participating with Friends of the Urban Forest in San Francisco. I have participated in some of their neighborhood plantings and met lots of nice people. My favorite place in all of San Francisco is the house in the Sunset district I share with my partner of over 20 years.
